Our story

Made in Spain for warm days

The espadrille has been the summer shoe of Spain for centuries — a light canvas upper sewn onto a sole of jute, the plant fibre that has made the shoe for generations. Spanish workshops still make them the old way: the canvas is cut and stitched, and the jute sole is built up by hand and finished with the rope edge that gives the shoe its look. Playa brings that Spanish espadrille to warm days everywhere — light, breathable and comfortable, the way a summer shoe should be.

How it's made

Each shoe is made in a Spanish workshop from a canvas upper sewn onto a jute sole, built up by hand and edged with the traditional rope. The natural materials breathe and soften with wear, moulding to your foot.

How to use it

Slip them on for warm days — they are the easy, breathable summer shoe. Wear them barefoot or with thin socks. The jute sole softens with use, and a little care keeps the canvas fresh season after season.

Good to know

How do I care for them?

Keep the canvas clean with a soft brush, and keep the jute sole dry where you can. With a little care, a pair of espadrilles serves through many warm seasons.

Are they comfortable?

Very — the natural canvas and jute are breathable and soften with wear, moulding to your foot. They are the easy, comfortable shoe for warm days.

Can I wear them barefoot?

Yes — they are made to be worn barefoot in summer, and they also work well with thin socks when the day turns cooler.

Are they made in Spain?
